The Steel Almirah - What do I do with it?

The steel almirah - the quintessential Indian storage essential. We don't like them. Can't do without them. Now, we have 2 of those - a large one and a smaller one. For the larger one, when did the wooden storage, we made an empty niche with a door. So we just need to to push the almirah inside the wardrobe and shut it. But I forgot about another smaller one. I now shudder to think that it is going to make my bedroom just like an average bedroom. :( Any ideas? Fortunately the smaller one isn't old or rusty but you know what I mean?

PS: Wonder where do these delicious looking western homes store their jewellery and documents?

That's a thoughtful fixture for your proble. But that's a problem solver.for your important stuff To just feel more important..You can clear away the daily doable ssuch a shoe racks bed linen and other things and your storage as an e xtension for your open area...I suggest you to consider making a table out of it or having sit behind your bed, In that way you can make uss of it in somewhat reassuring manner.

Rohanth, See if this inspires you.. alongwith some of the ideas suggested by RMs above. If its feasible please do away with the grills and replace them with tempered glass. In order to get the almirah coloured I would suggest you to go to a local garage where they fix dents and colour the car. You can get the almirah coloured at a very reasonable price. I had faced a similar situation where i had ordered one pole light online. After placing the light at the entrance gate the pole looked really small and dint justify the impact I wanted it to create. So i got the height for the pole increased from local fabricator for 200 Rs and got the fabricated portion of the pole painted by a local garage for 300 Rs. My reason to get it done from them is they are used to painting on metal and the finishing done by them is exceptional. Sharing some pics.. and i hope i m making some sense. I m not a architect and these r some lay man’s juggad to fix things at a reasonable price!! Good luck and do update the pics once done
