How/What sofa to replace/utilize this living room space ?

I am looking for suggestions (pictures would be really helpful) to get new sofas(contemporary style) for this living area space which has a pillar in between. pics attached.

Hi

Would suggest having a plank made of solid wood connecting the pillar to the left wall . Will make it look real nice

This is not the main living. This is a second living at the basement.so will be used for tv viewing and casual family time .Only issue is we will loose 3 feet on the right side as a landing space before entering the bedroom and also around a feet for the steps.After loosing this the area will be around 14feet *9 feet .IS it still ok for a sunken area or will it get congested?

16' long is a lot of room. Can you post a pic of the rest of the room? Remove every door you can. Every doorway does not need one and doing this one simple thing will remove a ton of bulk and make your space feel more open - no need to remove the hardware if you think you might want the doors back sometime in the future. Are you up for painting the walls and possibly the trim? Is this a sectional? If so, you might have to split it in order to get it to fit. The curtain into the bedroom is a good thing. I have used that idea, I love it, and I am not from India! Change them out for a lighter color and add panels to the ones you have - make them at least 3x fuller than the doorway. Pull them all over to the hinge side of the frame after the door has been removed. Your pictures need to be rehung and you can address that once you have found a furniture arrangement that works.

i have a feeling there is a distinct reason for the maid kitchen. thanks celerygirl for the def on a puja room. I don't think we should mess with that either. I like the drawing room. it is contained and allows your company to see exactly what you want them to see. If we are allowed to rearrange rooms, I would move the LR up toward the foyer, then use the current spot as the sitting room or library. I also do not like where the public bathroom is (too many spy novels I guess) I would rather it be closer to the public rooms and not you have to go past both bedrooms to get there. Or maybe, since they are both like master bedrooms have the c and the m open on your new sittingroom/libary? but if you move the living room up, everyone wont be walking through your dining room.

so much clutter on tv panel. keep minimal on tv panel. get glass door for puja cabinet. remove all the wall photos. put sheer curtains.. white curtains would make the room look as bigger. swap dining with sofa and

i liked smitha suggestion. create 2 side cupboard attaching pillar and wall. on one side, keep the money plant and art items.. on the other side keep books.. so that you can use the 2 seater for book reading

i think the Ventilation Is less over In this Plant. so plzz provide ventilation for it in the for of lights And Ceiling Fan.

as said by srilatha ..you should provide a cupboard. and at corner a L-shaped contemprory Sofa of plain colour..:-)

Considering the space is tight, I'd suggest that you get single seater chairs as per your color preferences. (check out limonstory, they have bright colors to lighten up the mood!)
For the connecting pillars, I think a one seater sofa can be done with with a low height cupboard

Things that can we worked upon:
1. Lighting - It's on the walls, roof lighting makes much more sense
2. Window - That window seems out of place and shape. The pillar over there is asking for a curtain!
3. Pillars - Instead of them just looking like pillars, you can have some wall art done or just a couple of platforms there to keep small things. (Do add some lights with those platforms!)

First and farmost, you have very beautifull coushion on sofa, from where you buy it?

You can check the videos of Small budget Big makover first session series in youtube. In One such house in Gujarat, Muninder and Bishakha coloured the old sofa set with whtie (The sofa is like yours) and changed the centre table. Interestingly, the family also had your kind of sofa set and they also want some modern style. The architect duo did not changed the sofa, just changed the colour. Another suggestion is that you have many tables on the room. You can drop few chairs and opt for a single centre table

An inexpensive solution is to change the layout of the furniture. Move your 3-seater against the right wall (wall with the window). The two 1-seaters on the right can be positioned against the accent wall. Move the sofas in the awkward place to where the stools are kept.
Fill the awkward area with some greenery and place the stools nearby.
Never push sofas towards the walls. they make small places look smaller. Also you can place the sofas at an angle. Play around and see which look suits the area.

One suggestion I have is to change your coffee table. It looks too big for that small place.
