I am building a home, my dear architect is insisting on wooden teak double shutter windows. I live in India and temperature is quite hot. Mosquitoes are also big problem. The theme is little antique one and to compliment the idea, architect is insisting on Wooden windows. My civil engineer says it may be big problem as now every one goes for sliding Upvc or Aluminium. Please give me pros and cons of windows of wood make. Your help is highly appreciated. Regards

yes, you can use wooden window frame and shutters. provided wood should be properly seasoned and both ends are sealed by using liquid wax.

Wooden windows can work in hot and humid climates in India if treated and maintained properly. Wood offers excellent insulation and aesthetic appeal, but it’s prone to moisture damage, warping, and termites. Opt for seasoned or engineered wood with protective coatings to resist humidity. Regular maintenance, like sealing and polishing, is essential. While charming and versatile, wooden windows require effort, making UPVC or aluminum alternatives with wood finishes worth considering for easier upkeep.
