Too much blue...try removing the blue curtains. I love your rug! You need end tables with lamps just in case you want to see! It's quite dark in there. Lower your picture over the couch so that the bottom of the picture is 5" above the back of the sofa. It might be a bit small for your space, do you have others you could group with it?

@magspag Thanx for the advice. We wanted to save some cost by not replacing the floor tiles, as well as save by retaining the upper cabinet in its current grey shade. Guess we will go for all-black for the cabinets: both below and above the counter; and put in a new counter-top that contrasts--maybe, a light coloured granite or slate. I have no idea about your place, but i found a dog fence very helpful. You can adjust them to different witdh, they are pretty inexpensive and you can remove them later when you move out. But i would also ask you landlord for a permanent installation because he must be concerned about your security too....Good Luck for You
