Hey all--

Gained a ton of inspiration from the site and thought I'd share my partner and I's novice carpentry + landscape attempt at renovating the front of our new house.

Thanks!

Love it! It's a great Midcentury Modern exterior now! Wow! Where did you find the garage door? That's the pattern on my 1959 fixer.

That is absolutely gorgeous! Well done.

There's another thread here you may have seen but it may have some ideas for you in case you're thinking about changes/refinements. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/landscape-and-paint-color-help-new-house-what-to-do-dsvw-vd~336154

Also, I love your door - but in the thread I just linked there's a door company that does some really spectacular mid-century stuff in case you're interested. http://www.crestviewdoors.com/browse/gallery.html

You did an amazing job. The house exterior reno looks great. Now all you need to work on is the front garden to increase curb appeal and perhaps add a pebbled epoxy deck around your pool and front entry to further set it off.

Steve, a standing O for you and your partner! Lefty isn't the only one who really enjoyed your pics.

The inside looks absolutely amazing. You really have a talent for this. I'm so glad you and your house found each other!

Whoa!!! Gorgeous!! You could do this for a living!

@David, I don't know about the chattahoochee. I can't recall seeing a single chattahoochee deck, that didn't have a a crack in it, and the repairs seem impossible to match. It's a shame; I really love the look of brand new chatt.

HI -- Thanks for the interior and backyard photos . You and your partner are doing a wonderful restoration of a classic mid century modern home. You have the EYE ! Good choice of furniture and decor items. It's good to see that another mid century house is NOT being distroyed by bad ideas. Keep up the good work !

Andrea, thank you so much! That totally made my day.

I can't believe the lady in the post would want to change out all that mid-cent greatness her boyfriend worked so hard to accumulate. Keep fighting the good fight!

And thanks everyone for all the positive feedback!

Steve, absolutely stunning job on the exterior! I love the lighting, the dark wood siding (could you tell me what product that is and where to get it?), the awesome garage door, the lighting, the house numbers and the way you placed them, the orange door... Those palm trees wouldn't work here, though: I live in Canada and we just had a snow storm! This is a particularly long & cruel winter {sigh} So I am experiencing major house & climate envy...

I love your living room or great room, too, and your choice of furnishings. Are you in the art or design business? You have such a keen eye!

Wonderful, and thanks for the photos because they reminded me I've kibbitzed on your back patio design. Great query about the cedar? ipe siding you installed horizontally - great look. For more inspiration about site walls and arbors that have modern lines, see this guys website - really creative and wonderful modern options to inspire. http://www.kirsch-korff.com/Pages/design_guides_and_portfolio.htm

    Hey Steve, amazing job!
I agree with Sandy above^^^ How did you do the wooden facade on a siding house, did you remove the siding? Details please!

    Thanks all :).

Sandy -- siding is ipe decking 1x6. I purchased this from advantagelumber.com! And to answer your question, no, no formal art training here. Just scary trial and error.

Sarah -- ipe was screwed into pre-existing wood siding as seen in the before pics. The vertical strips were used as mock furring strips.

I plan to switch up the wood in the back of the house to tigerwood. The plan is to side the wood paneling that lines the bottom part of the house and carry that under to the ceiling. I'm tired just thinking about it!
