@magspag Thanx for the advice. We wanted to save some cost by not replacing the floor tiles, as well as save by retaining the upper cabinet in its current grey shade. Guess we will go for all-black for the cabinets: both below and above the counter; and put in a new counter-top that contrasts--maybe, a light coloured granite or slate. Generally you can do pretty much anything with a house if you have the time and money. with a limited budget it does limit what you can do especially for kitchen remodel costs. A kitchen renovation needs plumbing - where is it located in the garage now? Will you build your new kitchen etc on the existing concrete garage floor? If you build a new floor above the existing garage floor that may give you more options for remodeling. Let us know about these answers and we can try and give better advice. Also consider talking to a local kitchen contractor or kitchen cabinet shop - they may be able to answer many of your questions and you will want to talk with them eventually anyway for your project.
