Stone slab for shower floor?

We were talking through our shower floor options for a 36 x 74 inch shower with our contractor. I am trying to avoid a tiled shower floor, though that may be the best option in the end. Dh would prefer to use the entire space for shower floor--no storage niches or benches to fill extra space--which eliminates cast iron and other standard size shower bases. Our contractor seemed to think that custom sizes of materials like corian would be out of budget.

So dh mentioned a leathered stone remnant he found when kitchen countertop hunting. It would be big enough to do the shower floor and the vanity top for a reasonable price. Our contractor thought that was a great idea. He would use a linear drain so the stone could be one slab sloped in just one plane. Dh said the stone felt rough and our contractor seemed to think the finish would keep it from being too slippery.

Our priorities in doing this bathroom are easy to clean, durable surfaces within budget.

Anyone done this? Any concerns? Thoughts? Other options I should be investigating?
