How about adding some touches of color to brighten up the space? Have you considered adding accents (decorations or accessories) like tall vases or decorative pieces that would draw attention immediately? Good luck!
Take the tv off the fireplace. It competes with it. Can you put it elsewhere in the room? I have the same issue in my living room and I just aim the sofa towards the tv and kind of ignore the fireplace. I know that sounds weird but everyone comes in a lays on the sofa and watches tv anyway not the fire. Lol. Better pics would help too.
Try taking some new photos in broad daylight with all the lights on. If you like the rug, add a close up with a scrap of white paper to show colors better.
It's pretty basic, but I've found it makes a difference when you wall-mount the tv and give a little breathing room on top of the fireplace mantle. Then, dress it up and add plants as other folks suggested.
It looks like there are windows on the two walls adjacent to the fireplace, so I'll take your word for it that the TV can't go anywhere else.
You make a focal wall by putting on it things you want to look at. I would clear the mantel, install built ins, get a lighter and bolder graphic rug, and pull the seating in closer. Before I did any of that, though, I'd see about improving the light. More lighting, or maybe just warmer color temperature bulbs.
