Thank you so much for your interest in my work. I know it’s been awhile since you posted this question, and for that I apologize. As you can imagine, I get quite a few questions on Houzz; I’m afraid this one just got away from me. If you are still interested in learning the answer to your question please let me know and I will do my best to find it for you.
Yes, indeed I am really interested in the approach you took to weather proof the deck so that the decks below are kept dry. I have a similar situation where I am planning to build a double deck, but I like to keep the bottom deck dry with some lighting and ceiling fans etc, but no windows around. So it will be open to nature, however the ceiling would be like any other room ceiling. I also like to finish the top deck with a normal deck look with no roof as well. So the questions is how do you finish the top floor?
Did you apply the waterproofing layer and place the Trex Deck right on top all above the joists or did you apply the waterproofing layer below the joist, thus leaving a gap for the water to leak down and out the drain?
The latter method would maintain the traditional deck look (with gaps in between the pieces) but the former method makes the floor look like any other regular floor loosing that outdoor feeling!
