Planning for disability
Comments (228)Tsilanko, I would always recommend professional installation where needed. But what I am doing here is suggesting that WHEN you are planning to build or renovate, to consider how your plans will affect you in 20 or 30 years time. Split levels are very hep when you are young. A kitchen 3 steps down at 30 is rarely a problem, but might be a hazard at 60, or, as Marjie1059 suggested, if you break a leg. ... All my parents' homes were terrible for old people. They were forced to move to a bungalow in extreme old sge because the location and design of their home was more suitable for an active young couple with a large family than for an elderly couple with stroke disabilities. I would not want to move again, so my present home has features built in that make ageing in place simpler. Mostly small changes, like grab rails, and lever handles on doors and faucets. A major disability suddenly suffered requires major changes if permanent. I did look at this because it came up in the discussion, but if you look at the heading, Planning for Disability, it means just that. Plan ahead so you don't have to make expensive changes later on. But thank you for your advice, yes, major changes are not in the DIY domain....See Morewhat type of chimney will best suit my kitchen
Comments (24)@corner Stone designs. sorry if I had given an impression it mud slinging. but objectively speaking the suggestion to go for a chimney just because someone asked for it instead of addressing the real issue us not what I intended to do. one has to understand all the negatives as well veggie going in for a decision . just like you have the right to suggest there is nothing wrong in pointing out the issues in the proposed solution. none of us are internet warriors but most of us are "sold" items that we will never need in our life by creating an illusion. I know that dinner call it business but I am not in such one and I have the luxury to call a spade a spade. Even now the person who asked for is not sure in what they want but they think that a chimney will solve the issue. engineering doesn't work that way. unless we know what the real issue us, which isn't clear if it is the smoke or the smell and the your of food cooked, the frequency, the 80/20 utility of the kitchen we are not even close to understanding the problem. my intent is to emphasize the importance of understanding the problem and then look for issue and not provide a ready made solution. we can all suggest something by seeing a picture that fire will come and catch the chef if it is located in the window but do you think that what you say is practical. you may construct this as much slinging be as a novice I have a genuine question. how many houses have such a fire accident. we don't even know if the stove is electric or gas. if it is electric then they just no question of fire. so I encourage you to objectively approach and not see this as a mud slinging thing as that's not the point....See MoreHelp me in choosing better plot!
Comments (16)Hello @Cornerstone Design Studio India No. I don't have any idea about FSI. I will try to learn more about it. Regarding the size of green belt, I have confirmed it from the patwari that Plot 1 has got 5 metre green belt on both sides. He told me that: All plots with 24 metre facing road are having 5 metre green belt whereas plots with 12 metre facing road are having 2.5 metre green belt. (It's 4 or 3.5 metre in case of 18 metre road, I don't remember exactly). About that bold line, I am sure that it is not representing width of green belt. (Check below image as that bold line is having same width for 12 metre facing plots). So what do you think now? Should I become that lucky guy to own plot 1? Check out whole map and there are hardly 3-4 corner plots which are having 24 metre wide road on both sides. (and there are just 2 plots having North East direction) whereas there are around 50-55 plots which are similar to Plot 2nd. About your query, It's Suncity Township - I (Sector 35, Rohtak). It's around 45 kilometres away from Delhi border. Would you please mind elaborating this point a little bit more - "For us function prevails over design anyday". If built up area is going to be same in both plots then how it affects functionality? Thanks a lot for your detailed input....See Moresofa placement dilemma
Comments (16)Apologies Pro, for speaking on her behalf but I guess she is referring to the alignment of the sofa and TV unit and the viewing angle. If the sofa is placed on the orange wall it has to be done after leaving the door space where as TV is place very near to the wall. Secondly, it will be too much of a viewing distance. Veena, if this is what you meant by 'haywire; it will be better if you share the floor plan with rough dimensions of the sofa and TV unit. Thanks, Nitin Cornerstone Designs, Bangalore....See MoreMystic Home
