is it possible to make the interior of a cabinet/wardrobe using marble/brick , to offset the cost of wood ? the exteriors wardrobe doors would be wooden ? what are the pros and cons of using marble ?
Plywood is about 50x cheaper than marble, if costs are a concern. Also, marble couldn't be a structural material for a wardrobe. The box of the wardrobe should always be plywood. You need to talk to a cabinet maker.
For many years, most people use cedar to plank the walls of wardrobes and closets, to prevent moths from eating the cloth. It is said that the high concentrations of cedar oils can kill moth larvae. Plus adds a nice aroma to the closet. In terms of bricks or marble, both are porous and will hold humidity. This after time can cause musty smell in your clothing which is an indication of mold and mildew present in the brick or stone. This however, depends on where you live. Hot climates like Arizona it should not be a problem. You could apply a good 15 to 20 years penetrating sealer which would help to prevent that moisture build up.
