If the bed remains on that wall, I would do the entire wall behind the bed in drapes. I would then get an upholstered headboard to soften the room instead of a wooden headboard. Then to help the room feel more airy I would get small mirrored nightstands and dresser. I hope the picture can give you some inspiration.

I would do two rows of louvered shutters on the window and extended over the wall to make the window the same width as the bed you choose, I would leave the bottom row of the shutters stationary,with only the lovers opening and closing. I would have the top part able to fully open so you could access the window for opening and closing. I think an openwork iron headboard would be nice, or a wooden headboard with spindles, You would then be able to see the louvers, get light and fresh air through them but still have a back for pillows, 2 pillows on the bed is a missed opportunity for a luxury look, It looks good to use at least 6 on any bed bigger than twin. That window on the side does not have to be done in shutters to match. Simple tab tops, the color of the shutters, with a decorative rod would give an open, easy look and provide privacy when needed. Painting the room a bold, non-wimpy color, even if it is neutral would add some drama, but I would do the woodwork and shutters white or cream. If the doors must be dark to match the rest of the house, do the frames facing the room to match the shutters. The. Room is small, so go for the most functional night tables you can find. A skinny, unfinished kitchen cabinet painted to match the woodwork would be nice. They can be used as furniture and do not need to be installed. Use a good, thick grade of pine and have your lumber store cut them to size for tops, paint to match and attach with wood glue. Have fun choosing knobs and hardware that are not kitchen-looking. Do the bed linens white so that you can add color and pattern by changing quilts and shams. You won't be stuck with one look. I bought a bed frame with a headboard, footboard and sides that is pretty enough not to need a dust ruffle to hide the ugly. It really makes a small room look so much bigger.

I didn't mention a dresser. You could choose anything and it would go with painted night tables and an iron bed. With a spindle bed, it might be good to match the woods. Another option would be to do a small corner armoire where you have the dresser. It would leave you much more room at the foot of the bed. The cupboards on the bottom could hold bins for clothing with open shelves on the top that would visually enlarge your room. You could have a really large, horizontal mirror on the wall opposite the bed reflecting light from the windows and making the room appear larger. Sorry I get so wordy. I just see a lot of potential here.

Unfortunately, I do not have a photo for you and have been unsuccessful in downloading my sketch. I think I can explain better what I meant. Your window behind the bed cannot be centered behind the bed and presently looks a little awkward. To remedy this, I suggested framing it with wood trim and creating another "fake" window alongside of it also using wood trim to frame it. Both the fake and the real window would get two rows of louvered shutters, a top row and a bottom row. Obviously, the lovers on the fake window would remain permanently closed. They are there only to give the illusion of another window. The shutters on the bottom half of the real window would remain closed, but the louvers would open to allow light and air. The top shutter could open to access opening and closing the window but most of the time, just have the louvers open for light and air.

You will have created a bank of window that your bed could be centered under and I think it would look nice. I would use a headboard with wood or metal spindles that allow the light and air from the real window to pass through, yet give you something to prop pillows against.

I must say though, if you did not want to do this, I love the recently added photo by Anne dee with white drapes, gray walls and some framed pictures that really help balance the awkward window. That was a beautiful room and looks a lot easier to accomplish than my idea. From your photos, I am not quite sure you have enough wall space to do it exactly like that, but I am sure you could experiment with the concept and come up with something lovely based on that idea.

No matter which idea you go with, I still love the idea of a headboard with spindles rather than a solid one. It would not cover your window and block a portion of it out.

Google any Jenny Lind bed to see what I mean about spindle beds. Also, that would be very pretty in metal as well as wood.
