When I lived in the Middle East we had marble floors. The advantages were they kept very cool. They were really nice looking. Large slabs of marble, not marble tiles. Sleek and modern. We only had one swamp cooler so it was important that heat not be trapped in the house. We had very deep eaves to block the sun, and white marble inside and outside to reflect the sun back.
The disadvantage is they stain more easily than granite or tile. But this was not a problem, really, as they were cleaned frequently.
Also, they are very hard. We had rugs in the seating areas but still, marble floors hurt if you fall on them. But then that is the same with any stone, tile, or even hardwoods.
