Comments (24)Keya, glad you decided to take the one reader's idea about moving the armoires in front of windows that you don't need and giving the bed a wall of its own! And, yes, you can have Roman shades on one wall and layered drapes on the other. When I had drapes made for my tall sitting room windows/doors, I had them use the same fabric for the Roman shades for the smaller windows on the other wall. For me personally, in these older Indian homes with all the odd nooks and niches in the walls, perhaps it would be more soothing to have a light/med tone paint on the walls that blends with the drapes/blinds for an 'uninterrupted' look, and I would use the same color on ceiling and beams. (but that is just my thought) I would start the process with a large carpet with your favorite colors, then choose your Bedcover & cushions, then your wall paint and fabric for drapes/blinds ..Not certain what style you like, but if you really like a particular Ethnic bedcover fabric, you can always have them stitched into curtains or Roman shades too. Comments (5)Pasting of tiles is very easy to do and used frequently in modern day practice. Few points to remember - 1. Cleaning of existing terrazzo. It should be done professionally with good quality chemicals. 2. Filling of gaps. Since terrazzo is composite material usually a 5 yr plus floor will have some undulations. They need to be scraped and filled in. 3. Pasting should be done with good quality adhesives and since you are living in the same place...care needs to be taken that after pastIng you do not disturb the floor for Atleast 30 hours. Make sure to follow the instructions on adhesive packing, they are simple n clear. 4. Take care to maintain a minimal slope towards the terrace or the toilets. Now about choice of colors - 1. NO need to think about wall color...that's something most people change every few years. 2. Thinking about furniture if it's something you don't want to change is good. 3. Pastel shades like cream, beige are easy to maintain. Gloss finish adds brightness and makes the space look larger. 4. If the house is small it is advisable to use same tile color all over. Other wise bedrooms can be in more earthy tone or laminate. Regards Reshma Sathe-Khare archeinconsultants@gmail.com...See MoreScandinavian bedroom design
Comments (5)Hi Shilpa, Scandinavian design is a beautiful and versatile design genre. A few things you need to keep in mind which is key to Scandinavian design is light and ventilation - so have large windows with no/ minimal grills. The warmth of the room comes from natural wood elements, hence if you do not have wooden flooring have some amount of distressed or old wood in the room in terms of side tables or wall hangings. Maintenance will be a key issue if you have all white walls and furniture , so remember to suit it more to the climatic conditions of where you are situated , so if in a city next to a busy dusty road, you might have to upkeep the room on a daily basis. Try to bring in some pop colour like coral or teal and of course invest in an original painting Hope this helps you Smitha...See Moreshould flooring be different in all rooms or it should be same?
Comments (9)Various area serves various purpose in a house, thus they have their own requirements. The ambience and character of every space could be unique yet in sync with the overall design of the house. Flooring plays a major roll in developing the character and mood of a space, so i would suggest to get a professional help (as there are various layers of detailing which adds on to the interior subconsciously) and work with them to identify what works for you according to your need, preference & lifestyle.
