I think all white trimmings will lighten up the room! Maybe a soft white with no yellow undertones.

I would consider granite or a hard surface material - in black to bring up the color of the fireplace and set it off. Maybe find one that has a mix of gray. Let it make a statement. It doesn't look too large, a shop would probably have a cutoff that would work.

I LOVE this "blob" in the granite! I think it adds so much to it. Granite is a natural stone, so this is how nature made it :) I wouldn't hide it all...but that's just me!

As for your towel bar and what to put over the commode, please think about placing art (a framed print) only over your toilet. All other options come with the risk of something falling into the bowl! Not shelves with knick knacks, a towel bar, etc.

It appears that you have a blank wall NEXT to the toilet and that's where I would put a towel bar (for decorative towels). If the shower will be used, consider towel hooks! They are much more practical for everyday use and the towels dry just fine. A wet towel draped over a rod always looks messy IMHO!

If you've completed the bathroom, please post updated photos :)

If I had to put a tv on a fireplace wall, I'd use a tv cover- up option. It's an appealing choice.

But I do have a bias, having grown up in a mid-century home fireplace stone work was lovely and tvs came with no wireless and smart tv options. Antennas were the norm and only 4 channels available. Things have changed so much but I've never lost my love of a stone fireplace wall, with little but the stone and fireplace.,

Sheri Law Art Glass commented on a discussion: Ideas for inexpensive do it yourself window coverings

Curt this is an attic and there is a chimney between the two windows so they can't be made bigger like the beautiful picture you showed. It's also the room for a live in so I'm just looking for an inexpensive way to cover the windows. Thanks for the input though!

The shape of the windows is so cute. Place a decorative rod from wall to wall. So as not to hide the arched side and in case there is no room on outer sides of windows, try one pair of short curtains that only come down as far as the window ledges and residing in the inside area (also making it easier when opening windows due to the latch location) If that looks odd and there is room, add and extra panel on each window.

Great house I would love to see some window boxes if you remove that large shrub. Landscaping will help alot. Maybe some pretty outdoor lighting.

Congratulations on your new home! Marlene and njmomma had some beautiful ideas. I really loved the red steps and how it set off the front of the house. A little color and some nice landscaping will give it lots of curb appeal. Good luck and be sure to post after photos. It is always fun to see what others decide to do and how it turns out! :)

It does look better after the grouting was cleaned, but it still has that "dusty" look - for want of better description. I will apply a sealer and hope that the sealer will help the colors to shine and tidy up the appearance. I so appreciate all of the suggestions. This is my first, and most likely, only time in building a new house and I have second-guessed myself throughout the process!

get a piece of foam and cut it to size, and make it fit exactly into that slot. then add pillows all around it. I would put roman blind so they are tight to the windows, and wont get pulled or rustled when you are reading.

Are the windows divided into four sections? Did you consider art glass in even one of the windows - maybe the center. It would be very dramatic, and when the sunlight comes thru it would cast beautiful shimmers around the room. It could be made for privacy, or a view out.

I own a glass studio also - and I did this simple transom in my bedroom - any type of background will work. Cluster is from Ed Hoy's, and you can do it straight or angled.
SImple, elegant, yet interesting.
